Welcome to the second edition of The Month in Type. How quickly a month passes! Last month’s was very well received. Many thanks for your comments and feedback. Remember, if you have something type-related and newsworthy (even if it's your own thing), then let me know! Without further ado, let's dive in. We'll start with some recent noteworthy font releases:
↑ It’s been a while since Mark Simonson released some new types. Almost seven years, in fact – with the release of Bookmania in 2011. And now two release at once: First Acme Gothic available in 5 weights and widths for a total of 25 fonts; and Parkside a new script inspired by lettering of the 1930s and ’40s. It’s available in six weights. I’m especially fond of the hairline.
↑ Brenner: An impressive and extensive new type system from Typotheque.
↑ Metairie is a bouncy new high-contrast script from Jeremy Dooley of Insigne.
↑ Tiempos Fine expands the already splendid family from Kris Sowersby of Klim Type.
↑ From a sketched Clarendon to woodcuts and back to digital. The story of Kontiki from Felix Braden.
↑ Nomada: Five families – sans, serif, slab, incised and didone – team up for an ambitious super-family from Jordi Embodas.
↑ Trillium from House Industries – now with layers!
↑ A special bundle deal on Laura Worthington’s fonts. I’m not a fan of these deep discount deals but I am a fan of Laura’s work.
↑ Tangly, a very cool patterns font from the brilliant Zuzana Licko of Emigre.
↑ Bethany Heck is back with another wonderful review – this time of H&Co.’s Champion Gothic. I can only begin to imagine how long these reviews must take to write and design. Anyway, fantastic stuff. Some of us are secretly hoping that she will quit her job and and do this full-time.
